Ecumenism

Ecumenism is the process of seeking understanding and understanding of the other. The term ecumenical comes from the Greek word οưκουμήνη, meaning inhabited world. In a narrower sense, the term is used for efforts in favor of unity among Christian churches. However, in a broad sense, it can designate the search for unity among religions.

Initially, ecumenism was defined as a movement aimed at the unification of Christian churches. The ecclesiastical definition, more comprehensive, says that it is the rapprochement, the cooperation, the fraternal search for overcoming the divisions between the different Christian churches.

In Christian environments, the relationship with other religions is often called interreligious dialogue. This portal was developed from the perspective of ecumenism as the search for unity among all religions, in a macro-ecumenical view.
